Plane Rack - Stalled Progress Pics...

>Posted this on the general board, but thought y'all might be interested as well. This is a hanging rack I was/am building for my meager collection of planes:
The thing's made from some recycled poplar panels I'd fouled up for (you guessed it) a blanket chest. They were horribly cupped and twisted. Ripped 'em apart, jointed them, planed them, and reglued 'em. Flattened 'em with a #5. Joinery's simple - butt joints, poly glue, and some stout stainless screws. Inside's finished with some barn red milk pain and oil - wanted to see if I liked the color before committing to it for the wife's birthday blanket chest. Hangs, currently, on a french cleat of red birch. The panel lifts to reveal some extra storage, where woodies will live. Left the back open to take advantage of the pegboard.
To do: Apply birch strips to the hinged panel to define storage spaces for the few iron planes I own, plus the few more I want to, um, acquire. The backside of the panel will be dotted with inset rare earth magnets to help secure the planes - two for the block(s), three for the #4 and #5, and four for the (eventual) #8. The exterior will also get the red milkpaint and oil treatment. There'll be one more french cleat, mounted below, because the cabinet's only 12" wide, and I want to distribute weight on that stud in more than one spot. Finally, I'm planning on adding some gas springs to help move the panel should it ever get loaded, and to help relieve the butterfly hinges of some weight.
Anyway, there you go. Lately I've been just standing in the garage rearranging the inside contents. Sigh...
