MWTCA Report - long
Ted in Mpls
>I went to the MN MWTCA meet this past weekend. My goal was to find a plow plane and some old chisels. It took all of five minutes before I found a vendor with a 45, 46, Stanley 50, and Record 50 all in my price range. I let him talk me into the Record because it was complete and came with a full set of cutters. Bought about a dozen chisels, all cheap, most beat up, but they have more class than the Narex chisels I've been using. I was hoping for a couple of cheap spokeshaves or block planes, but didn't see any that I wanted, instead I got a Miller Falls router plane, I'm not sure I need one, but I didn't want to leave when I still had money.
I spent most of the money I brought by ten, but I hung around until noon on the off chance that I would win the miter plane that Wayne Anderson donated, it was the purtiest tool I've ever seen. That gave me a chance to ask stupid questions about tools I didn't recognize. Everyone was friendly and seemed happy to school the ignorant. I learned a lot about clapboard tools. The one question I forgot to ask was what made a late model Stanley hammer worth $50.
Ted, looking forward to sharpening things.
