Missing hand tools

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>I'm starting to cut out the balusters on my porch with the Neanderbuddy, aka band saw, and wow am I missing hand tools! Between the noise of the saw, the noise of the shop vac that I'm using for dust collection, and the noise of the box fan that attempts to exhaust free dust from the shop...and then the safety glasses kind of irritate my ears.

>I know what you mean Bill. I have my first paying WW job today. A picture frame cut from plywood (WHOOOO) and edgebanded insided and out of some crappy pine provided by the artist WHOPEEEEEEEEEE! No neander buddies here at all.

BTW It helped pay for the left handed LN 140 I just ordered today. Beep Beep, 35 days smoke free too! Beep Beep zip tang!!!!!!!!!!

Scott, Concerding himself a bit of an artist himself.

>Todd you can quit, it is mind over matter, and you will feel better.

I quit by breaking the association of certain activities with smoking.

Start the car, light a cig, stop and don't light one for ten minutes.

Finish a meal, light a cig, stop and don't light one for ten minutes.

Determine those events and each week break one at a time and eventually you'll be down enough to quit cold turkey. It worked for me anyway.

>I just used sheer bloodymindedness. I had been smoking around 20 a day for nearly ten years, and I just had enough. So I decided it was a test of wills, and its the best decision I've ever made. Well, buying a LV shoulder plane was a pretty good decision too.............

>For all you [now] non-smokers: Way to go!!

I was a two and a half packs a day smoker when I quit (now so long ago I'm not sure of the year, but around 1984).

It can be done. And all of you have done it!

>I th9ink that's a good plan; if I was to quite finishing meals, I would not only not be smoking, I would weigh a lot less. I guess having seen two grandfathers of my own and my wife's grandmother go through their last few years was enough to prevent me from ever wanting to touch a cigarette, although I occasionally smoked a cigar and don't even want to do that anymore. I really feel for those of you who are hooked on the stuff, but I think if I could have gotten video of my grandfather's last years you might quit right now.

Quit Smoking Aids - Nic Patches and New Tools

Lewis Lamb

>I used the patches for the first 21 days to ease the nicotine withdrawals - and I used new tools as my "rewards" at certain intervals. So far, I've gotten a LV low angle block plane and medium shoulder plane, and an Adria DT saw is on the way. It's worked for me for 100+ days now.

I just wish I'd made a 12 month list - I've gotten used to ordering a new tool every 30 days, so when I hit the 4 month mark without getting anything new, I'll have to undergo a different form of withdrawal.

The bottom line is this: whatever method you choose, you can make it work if you commit yourself to it. Good luck.

>Hi Lewis,

If you need further help keeping off the wagon, you could also set up a punishment for yourself as well. How about telling yourself that if you light up, then all your deservingly acquired tools go up on the WC benefit auctions board.

That'll keep you on the straight path!
