plane bedding angle

>Hi all,

The recent thread about wooden jointers is prompting a question in my brain.....What is the advantage to me of having a jointer with a 60 bedding angle as opposed to a more conventional 45?

I should mention that I work mostly in softwood and domestic hardwoods. I generally prefer the look of straight grained (1/4 sawn) wood. Birdseye maple doesn't do it for me. So, is a HNT jointer a decent option of should I look to a shallower bedding angle.

Thanks for your time,

>60 is too high for those woods. you get a lot of resistance in pushing the sucker. you can't take off very thick shavings. anything over 50 is really too high to plane softwoods and ahve a decent looking surface ithink.
