First Knight Plane of 2004

Russell Hill

>I received my Knight Toolworks coffin smoother on Friday and was delighted to notice that Steve had stamped the plane "1ST OF NEW YEAR"! Nice touch Steve. I am not sure if my plane is the first coffin smoother of the new year or the first plane overall of the new year.

The Rest of the Plane Plus More

>Here is a shot of the full smoothing plane plus the adjusting hammer that I built for it using some scrap white oak and maple. The nose in the picture is my Greyhound - Lilly. She just had to check out the scene. The background is the top of a dresser that I am building in birdseye maple with a French polish finish. I will post pics of the dresser when I am done.

>Thanks Russell!

I think Lily's watching to see if it's gonna run, or if it's something to eat--I know that look. Plane looks really solid and good. That birdseye maple is killer. Will make a good test for the plane, too. Wiley

>Yeah, Lilly wants to chase anything that moves!

The birdseye in the picture is actually veneer but I did buy the plane specifically for some solid birdseye and I works great.

>great picture. I can never get that good of a closeup. I usualy stamp the first week or so of plane making with that stamp. maybe 10 or 15 planes. something fun to do till I forget to stamp them (G)

>Thanks Steve, nice touch. My camera has a macro mode for closeups and then I put the plane on a window sill in real sunlight so that I got some good shadow in the letters. Lighting is the key to photos of textures.
