>They are still used,and in more than just Asian countries.Chinese chalk lines are used right here in Maine by BIW,one of two major contractors for Aegis destroyers.The ones we use are black and far more ornately carved.They use a water based ink which make lines that are more durable on steel hull construction than the standard chalklines.The powdered ink is a real PITA and supposed to be a health hazzard(which makes me wonder why we still use it).
