Lee Valley catalog *LINK*

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>So, Rob's elves sent me the January tool-porn booklet (thanks, Rob and elves -- I'm curious what "source code UWDWK" means?). I haven't ever requested a catalog because I'm frantically paying off the house so I can retire earlier and play with all the toys I already own and don't want to impose on Rob when I know I won't be buying anything anytime soon, unless the lottery gods smile down on me, something they haven't done till yet.

Anyhow, getting back to the subject from my digression, there's a whole lot more lustworthy stuff there than the admittedly lustworthy planes and spokeshaves. The carpenter's pencil sharpener is far better than the design I see in the local lumberyards (which turns a carpenter's pencil into a regular one), for instance, but I'm particularly entertained by the glue condoms (see link below).

A lot of very, very clever, well-thought-out stuff. It's nice to see someone continuing to develop the tools that support the craft.

They're actually called "nozzle caps"

Who says...

Dan Clermont in Burnaby

>the glue condoms were originally designed for glue bottles? I wonder if it is patent pending.

Another LV oddity *LINK*

Clay Craig in Miami

>Note that their page selling Hock blades lists their Hock blades for Stanleys as "Replacement Blades for Hock Planes." Presumably someone momentarily asleep at the switch, Ron Hock has never made planes for sale, I don't think.

OMG.. Whr. did Rob copy this from... (censorable)

CONGER - The Irish diaspora in Munich

>"These small latex rubber socks are excellent for sealing partly used tubes"

I was going to title this post 'tongue in cheek'... but maybe that would have awakened too many sensitivities.

-g-

BTW... Rob, are you in the land of the hun for St. Pats (17th March for the heathens)? We have a Guinness (Ireland's weapon of mass consumption - stockpiled in every pub) waiting for you... and I have my 'order' waiting on my breakfast table!! Do you sell suitcases?

>those are not a lee valley invention. I tired them and one got glued onto the tip (G) You can't relaly seal a silicone tube once opened.

Right ...

>But LV doesn't sell those Krenov-type plane Hock blades, only the Stanley replacements. I was just amused by the glitch.

Next catalog, full line of the new standard in metal handplanes brought to you by Hock! Boy, I hope not. I can't afford their current catalog listings. (-:

Don't ask for Guiness in Kln!

Greg Btit, Vergennes, VT

>The boys in blue (the waiters) can get pretty rude when you ask for something other than Kolsch. I made the mistake of asking for a weisbier, and they kept at me all evening!
