One more plane rack question.....

>I know this topic has taken a beating lately but please indulge me one more query.....

How does everyone go about storing long wooden planes like try planes and jointers?

I've got a Knight smoother which I can incorporate into my storage plans but what will I do with either the jack, trying and jointer planes I figure I'll acquire before long? I do NOT want to put a screw hook in the end so I can hang them. There has to be another way. If an angled shelf is the answer, what sort of angle are we talking about? Would anything other than the angle and gravity hold them in place?

Thanks in advance and I'd love to see some pictures!

>Steve,

I screwed a wide rough pine board to my wall over the bench. I drilled two 3/8" holes into the board angled slightly downward toward the wall. I drove dowel into each hole. I did this for each of my planes. The dowels are spaced differently to accomodate each different plane size. I set the plane on the dowels. The dowels just have to stick out just past the width of the plane. This works great for me and as an added bonus, when I get a new plane I just find apace and put in more dowels.---Jack

This link is to Dave Anderson's Becksvoort-inspired rack with a woodie jointer showing in one shot - seems to work.
