Of course it's important to get the blade shapened well and the burr turned, but I also lapped and polished the sole. My scraper had deep scratches on the sole (from the factory), so I lapped it flat and polished it with wet/dry sandpaper starting with around 220g and going through either 1500g or 2000g. Also, you might want to add an extra blade because the blade dulls relatively fast (not as fast as a card scraper). I bought an extra one with mine, but if I didn't have 2 I probably would buy a Hock replacement. The Stanley originals are relatively thin.
