Saw help

Steve Kubien

>Hello all,

I've got a saw which is drifting to the left. What causes this and how do I fix it?

The blade is dead straight. I think I have to whet one side but I can't remember which. Is it the side of the drift (left in my case). sorry, I'm having a brain-cramp. I know I've got this info at home somewhere but I can't recall where.

Thanks for the help,

Steve Kubien

Ajax, Ontario...

Where we are approaching absolute zero and expecting snow. Don't worry, hell is not freezing over and the Leafs will not win the Cup.

Lightly stone the side with the drift.

Who names towns, anyway?

Scott in Douglassville, PA

>I grew up in Michigan. Not only did we have to hear about Hell all the time, but we had Bad Axe to deal with, and (of course) Climax was situated so closes to so many colleges that it was a game to see how many times a year the sign was down on 94.

Moved to Texas, lived in Beaumont. "Beautiful Mountain"? Nope - flat as a run-over pancake. Sour Lake was a winner, right there with Sugarland, and our bullmastiff's hometown of Winnie.

Come back north, and east, and 3/4 of the towns near where I am sound like someone with a chest cold couldn't get the name out clearly at the town meeting.

What gives? No one used to think about posterity?

Scott, who liked Indiana's county names...

It sounds like...

>you're complaining. Hey, my town is named after stuff you use to clean your toilet bowl with!

>Living in Michigan, you would think I'd have to drive through the town just so I can quite literally say I've been to Hell and back, but actually never have been.

>Steve,

Could be caused by too much set on one side. Folks often assume this is the case, though I think not since its pretty hard to screw that up.

I find this when the teeth were either punched out from one side or filed from one side only. I think a foley files from one side only. I do too.

Run your fingers over the teeth ever so slightly. If you close your eyes (don't ask just do it) you may feel a burr on one side.

Instead of honing, which will work but will dull the saw, try filing from the other side. This will remove some burr and create some on the other side. Just one stroke per tooth and keep your file clean.

>Thanks as always Adam. I'll see if I have a file small enough and look into this.
