>Thanks, Bob, very interesting. I suppose the hammer was an effort to go faster and the pliers an effort to go faster with precision? Someone contemplating hammering her Japanese saws may find a homemade wrest a more reliable setting device.

Are there rules about thick the wrest should be (alburnam's archive says 3/32", but that might be for typical western saws)? Relative to the tpi?
