>Again, missed this conversation the first time, but wanted to contribute some ideas about secure but visible chisel storage.

Rack for crank neck chisels is 1/2" scrap mahogany with blind sliding dovetails between rack and sides. Angled about 7 degrees or so to keep blades nestled against backing board. This style of rack works fine for tapered ferrules as well if you drill for the smaller diameter and open up the top with a fine bench knife.

Fastened to back board through the back of the chisel slot but could be done a couple of other ways.

>Here is my chisel rack inside my Wall Cabinet. The socket chisels hang and the Butt chisels sit on their handles. It works quite well and saves space.

>Dan:

Are those tapered holes opened with a saw, or rectangular/tapered? I have not tried the later, but seems like it would work well for Blue Chips and other tapered bolster chisels.

>Hi Todd,

The holes are cut with a drill and the openings are tapered to match the chisels socket angle. To prevent the chisels from falling out you have to saw the tapered opening slightly narrowr then the chisel socket. To remove a chisel you lift 1/4" and pull it out.

It works very well and highly recommend it for socket style chisels.
