Re: For those of us who can't make the show.....

>The next issue (just went to the printer today) has a six-page article comparing the two styles of Veritas shaves to the Lie-Nielsens, Kunz, Anant and English-made Stanley 151.

I cannot say much yet without giving away my hand to Rob Lee (my turn to tease). Let's say that the Veritas tools turned in the kind of performance we've all come to expect. Sorry I can't be more specific. Once the article hits the streets I'll have a lot more to say for you folks, including stuff I coudn't fit in the article.

I'm off to set up our booth. Such is the glamorous life.

Re: Help? Roy's Books?

William R. Duffield, on the Cohansey

>My suspicions are that that article may for a different tool tote, a standard one with a dowel handle, straight sides, rabbeted and nailed corners, and a groove to hold the bottom. It has been too many years since I saw the episode in which he built the "signature" tote, so I don't remember all the details of its construction. I do know that it had dovetailed corners, and I think the bottom was nailed on. I looked at the index and compared entries referencing pages 20-27, where the tool tote article resides, and they just don't quite match up with what I would expect to find.

You probably can't go wrong buying any of the Woodwright's books, so if you miss your target on the first attempt, you've got three, soon to be four, more chances.

Can anyone else help?

Re: Hey Will!

Will in K.C.

>If my absence for that day fits into my wife's plans I will definately attend the KC show. She will of course take all my cash and credit cards and frisk me before and after the show. I have been eyeing some tools lately and she sees me cruising the net at night looking for deals. Anyway, I would like to meet you all for breakfast. Please, email me with details.

Looks can deceive...

Jonathan Kaplan (OR)

>Ah, the benefits of small, low resolution photos!

The rack consists of a piece of baltic birch ply I had leftover from another project, and a couple of pieces of poplar scrap with 3/8" (I think) dowels glued into them (I carved the tops of the dowels a bit so the chisels would 'rest' on them, but that took just a few minutes in all). Took maybe half an hour to make, tops. I left room for more dowels when I made it, and have added a few as my chisel collection has grown...

A rack built around the same basic idea *could* I think be pretty stylish, but this one sure aint! I think of it as a 'proof of concept' project that just lasted longer than I thought it would -- the problem with satisficing :)

But thanks for the kind words!
