>They're pretty spendy, and I'm just interested in info on John Taber. Can you look it up and report what it says about him?
Thanks,

Jim Crammond in Monroe, Mi.
>John,
According to the 4th edition of American Wooden Planes, John Marshall Taber was a member of a planemaking family working out of New Bedford, Ma. His father was Nicholas Taber and his brother was Allen, both known planemakers and there were several other Tabers that were planemakers whose relationship with John is unknown. There were 6 known variations of stamps used by this maker, most either J M Taber or John M Taber, with or without New Bedford on them. All seem to be one star as far as rarity is concerned.
Hope this is the sort of info you were looking for.

>That's what I was looking for. With that level of rarity (I have about 6% of the known examples with 12) I doubt if I'll be able to fill out the set with other John Taber planes.
