"Jett Sett(tm), how do I love thee?"

Rio Grande is the only supplier I know of at the moment, and they sell it for 34.00/lb or 29.00/lb if you buy two. That does seem pricey, but it's quite a bargain for me considering how much I use it. Amortized over a few years of recycling it makes its cost next to nothing, to my way of looking at it. I've made temporary ergonomic tool handles, covered mallets and hammers to make them non-marring (it only sticks to itself or other plastics but is easily removed for the next job), made on-the-fly sharpening/grinding jigs for hard-to-hone blades, French-fitted small cases and drawers (which I then routed with a #271, et al), even bedded a couple loose moulding irons and used it for a missing wedge (great for fitting a new one), made 'impossible' clamps. And these were just a few of the woodworking uses.

More in line with why Rio Grande sells it (on page 246-247 of their "Tools & Equipment" catalog), and uses to which I put it constantly (hardly a day goes by), include graver and file handles, moulds and templates, replacing setter's & engraver's pitch and shellac, repousse and chasing and all manner of fixturing (especially under my new zoom-boom stereomicroscope -- drive-by optical gloat).

Then there's chucking oddly-shaped things on a lathe, holding while carving, whittling, painting, drilling. Amd specialized vise jaws. Oh, I could go on and on. But I won't.

Another source (and cheaper) *LINK*

Here's an alternate supplier who just posted a 'sale' price on Thursday of $19.95 for one pound of Jett Sett. Although I'm a long-time satisfied Rio Grande customer, I have no experience with SEP, but I'm sure gonna peruse their site.

Nylon v. Jett Sett (costwise)

David Barnett

>Probably not as cheap for just one application compared to nylon scraps, but you'll have some left over for other uses, which are manifold (see above posts).

Hmmm... "From shop to kitchen, from auto to autoerotic!"

Okay, so maybe they shouldn't hire me to write their ad copy.
