granite reference plate run

John Truxell-Svenson (jvs)

>I will be making a side trip by Grizzly's Muncy location on the way back from a New England trip at the end of the month to pick up a reference stone. I have had my eye on the ~$40 12x18" toolroom-b ones for a while, but coundn't stomach paying almost one and a half times that for shipping.

If any other Islanders in the Northern Virginia/DC area want one, I would be happy to throw an extra in the back of the car; shoot me an e-mail at the address above.

Police stop driver for excessive weight

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>Ohio police stopped a driver on the turnpike yesterday because the back of his car was dragging so low, the bumper had scraped off the top layer of pavement over a 100-mile strip. The trunk turned out to be filled with odd retangular blocks of granite. When questioned, all the driver would initially say was, "Hey, I was just helping out some friends. What's the big deal?" In later questionining, he began to babble about reference flats and "tuning up my planes," although he denied having a pilot's license.

He was released after he agreed to pay for re-paving the damaged strip of turnpike, and left, muttering, "I shoulda just paid the freight."

very funny, bill

>Well, it's a mid-sized SUV, and I've had over 200 bf of rough hardwood in it at a time, so a couple/three of slabs should be fine. Rides a little low, but does ok except for hills--funny smells going up and different ones going down. Luckily, it is my wife's.

/jvs, wondering how to keep her off the Internet until this thread scrolls away.

>You should have seen 160bf of 12/4 Hard Maple in my wifes Saturn SL2 before I got my truck. They guy at the lumber yard just looked at me like I was crazy. I got the wood in but fitting myself in (6'4" 330lb) after that was hard, and the worst part is it was a stick shift.

I really love my truck.
