>Ang,
Depending on what you decide, I know an "antique" shop that has a full unused set of Footprint chisels....and a roll listed for $60. If you're interested, I could make the guy an offer for you. They've been there since at least the summer.

>I don't have a large sampling of Footprint chisels - namely one 1" chisel with a red handle - but the thing seems to have fairly soft steel and doesn't hold an edge nearly as well as my older chisels, i.e. Witherbys, Swans, Bergs or Everlasts.

>There are various vintages and handle designs available and they are objectively different. I have a set that has comfortable oval handles and once I remove the varnish on the handle they are easy to use. The steel is durable in my opinion and takes a very sharp edge. I haven't used them on hard woods but they are not bad chisels. If the price is right I would recomend them.JR
