Re: Completed Stand for Craft Caddy
Derek, I did build from a plan I downloaded from Woodsmith. The URL for the plan is:
https://www.woodsmithplans.com/plan/box-jointed-craft-center/
The plan provides very precise measurements for the location of the holes in the 12 wooden hinges, and, for the location of the holes in the center row of storage boxes. The 12 hinges are then attached to their respective holes in the center row of boxes only. Then, a rectangle is cut from thin plywood to precise measurements provided in the plan and is used as a jig for aligning the shorter hinges in perfect parallel with the longer center hinge in each of the 4 hinged segments of the caddy in order to locate and drill the holes in the upper and lower rows of boxes. The plan emphasizes the importance of maintaining the hinges in each of the four segments in parallel. To do otherwise would ensure the boxes would not separate left and right as intended.
The hinges swivel on barrel bolts sourced from McMaster Carr. The plans contain source recommendations for all the required hardware except for the 2 cabinet pulls. They are not in the plan and were added by me to make it easier to pull open the left and right segments.
Hope this information helps. The explanation makes it seem more complicated than it really is. The graphics in the plan are quite good and are easily understood.
