I prefer resin filled with dried used coffee grounds. Fill it with just resin and all the colors look like plastic. The coffee grounds have a bit of color variation and look more natural in wood in my opinion. You are basically going to have to cast the whole board since there are voids everywhere!

Mark,  A couple of thoughts. 

• Why fill it at all?  Just put an appropriate finish on the piece.
  
  
• Depending on the thickness, you might be in for multiple pours or using deep pour epoxy.  Study your options.
• The wood itself has a lot going on.  I would resist filling the epoxy with more swirls/texture/dust/pebbles/etc.  Sort of like wearing plaid with stripes.  Too much.
• Filling the void with black epoxy is boring.  
• I river runs through it - NOT.  Never saw a river up on its side.  Except maybe a waterfall.
• A translucent color will blend with the wall color behind the headboard.  Yellow and blue make green, you know.  Keep that in mind.

Thanks, Joe.  The wood is 3/4" thick so it will be easy to do in 2 pours using a medium hardener.  I've decided to go with clear epoxy so the detail inside the voids stays visible.  When the filling is done, the back will be painted black to block the wall color mix. Got to look up best practice to remove entrained air bubbles.

No, none of that twirly whirly bowling ball stuff in my shop.

Put a light box behind the clear epoxy? If you don't like it after experimenting with different light bulb sizes and arrangements, just remove it and paint the back black.

Might consider backing with aluminum foil to work as a mirrored surface.  Easy to remove.
