Survey question, woodpecker pecks?
How do you fell about peck marks?
1 I like the character it adds to normal wood.
2 It doesn’t matter.
3 I consider it a defect and try to avoid it.

If you are talking brown dots and streaks the tree makes ("host response") in response to sapsucker woodpecker activity, stunning in turned wooden bowls.

Whoever said little peckers couldn't get the job done had no appreciation for wood.

Ah, apparently their is a difference between "peck marks" and "WOODPECKER peck marks." LOL

When I moved to Florida in the '70s, there was a Zelkova tree in the front yard. A sapsucker killed it. When I moved to NJ in the late '90s, there were two different kinds of magnolia trees in my back yard. A sapsucker killed them too. One also decimated my Korean spice viburnum, but they don't touch the Zelkova in the front that my father-in-law planted when they lost the American elms growing along Ye Greate Street. So I file the Dutch Elm Disease and the Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker in the same bucket.
