Unlike you, I am not a cheapskate, but I would rather slide neked on 60 grit and land in a tub of iodine than pay more than 20 bucks for a bandsaw blade.

Actually, I think of myself as more like frugal.  

The problem is I hate fiddling with bandsaws and tuning them up to run correctly.  My tablesaw suits me better.  With a excellent blade on it I can just saw stuff.  No tweaking the alignment every time I use it or even when I change the blade. A couple of minutes and I am working again. The bandsaw, not so much, seems like half and hour or more.  Change the blade and it's time to leave the shop.

I do love taking nothing and making something out of it.

Barry, I use a Lenox Tri-Master 1" x 2/3 variable-pitch blade on my 20" bandsaw. I am not sure whether Laguna recommends using a blade of this width on their 14" saws; I imagine they would allow it, possibly with caveats. I know I wouldn't think of using one on a 14" Delta or Taiwanese/Chinese knockoff bandsaw because of the tension required and the structural strength of the saw frame, not to mention that the relatively small wheel diameter puts a lot of strain on a band this size, which can lead to band/weld breakage.

I'm  no expert on band saws or band saw blades. What I can say with  confidence is that on my Laguna HD 16 the one inch Resaw King carbide blade is a near perfect blade for nearly everything you want to cut straight, i.e no curves to speak of. I leave it on mostly for resawing, just the way you want to do, and it's just terrific. The cut quality is very fine. I paid about what you paid for it. No trouble whatsoever.

But don't forget ( I think I've said it before) my wheels are 16 in diameter,and yours, you say, are 14 inch, and that could cause too much flexing for this kind of blade when it is running. Probably not -- but worth asking about.

I have a 14" Delta with a riser. Using highly rated blades such as timber wolf or olsen gave me unsatisfactory results. I was in the process of seeking out a bi-metal Starrett blade and came across a Starrett Duratec from Woodcraft in my shop. That blade works great and I am able to take full depth cuts in hardwood despite the small motor on the saw. I believe I have the 3/8 model - the saw can't tension really wide blades.

For me, the Starrett was a game changer and somehow much better than the other blades I've used. You can try the Duratec for $20 and upgrade if you like it.

Lenox does make some Tri Master blades that are .025" thick rather than the more typical .032" (or more) resaw blades. That's the same band thickness as common carbon steel bandsaw blades so I'd think they'd be less prone to breaking. Looking at Spectrum Supply's web site, it looks like the Tri Master 1/2" X 3 TPI is the only .025" blade listed.
