Question for Paul in Hunt Valley, MD
Paul, by any chance are you a doctor? I have been aware of you posting on Wood Central for years. I have told people that one of things I like about this place is the vast knowledge base that it represented here. Why we even have an MD. I live in Virginia. It slowly dawned on me that everyone in the state north of me is an MD at least in their address. I have gotten a good laugh out of this. Another Duhh moment.

Barry, sorry to say I am not a doctor. However, I have accompanied my significant other to so many medical appointments I should have some sort of certificate in medical general knowledge.
I spent my career from 1961 to 2008 in the IT industry and after retiring I yearned for a hobby that would keep me away from a desk and computer, and where I could work with my hands. In 2008 I visited a Woodcraft store and saw a Windsor chair on display with a sign soliciting customers to sign up for a weekend class to build one. The class was given by a master chair maker from Ohio named Mike Herrel who provided the materials and a few jigs for a class of seven students. We each left with a Windsor chair we had assembled, and I was hooked. I then purchased a maple log and a poplar log from a local saw mill and had them cut into 2” planks, some of them 18” wide. While these boards were air drying I built 2 Windsor chairs from materials I purchased from Mike, the instructor. 15 chairs later the material from the logs has been exhausted, and I am moving on to other woodworking challenges. I find the hobby rewarding and relaxing.
This forum, and your participation in particular along with a number other members, has been an enormous help to me in learning so many of the finer points and techniques of the craft. Not to mention that it is quite entertaining at times.

How's Hunt Valley doing? I used to go there quite often on business. I stayed at the Marriot Key Bridge.

The commercial/business area is a bustling region of industry, business and retail as you know. It’s the headquarters location of McCormick Spice Co. and range of smaller growth companies. The residential area is rural with bucolic rolling hills and horse farms. We had our house built 52 years ago on a ridge with a great view. Raised or family there and can not think of a reason to move. Also, I could not imagine moving my workshop.
