Tavern Table in Cherry
Been working on three project the last few months. Just delivered this Tavern Table in Cherry. Drawers on each end. The client was quite in involved in the design especially the leg profile. Overall Table top is 36" wide 60" long with breadboard ends. Height 30"

Alan - Nicely done! I love cherry, and have to build more with it.
I have never looked closely at a table of this style. Is the leg profile repeated twice in the bottom stretcher (if that what the piece is called)? Is that the norm for this style. Guess I have never noticed - but I like it.

Henry I would say that the stretcher profile contains some modified elements of the legs. Because the legs are turned from a 2.75" square and the stretcher is from a small square-can't exactly remember the size-- the stretcher features are a bit less pronounced.
BTW I forgot to mentions --this finished for the top is Minwax Tung Oil Finish .
Every other section else is Brushed on Zinsser Amber Shellac.

Alan, Is the stretcher turned from one piece? It appears the center section might be a jointing piece and if so, how were they joined.

George-The long center stretcher is two parts. They are doweled together in the middle and through doweled at each end. In the middle I "wrapped" the joint on all four sides with 1/4" stock. Then planned each edge so the joints would be less obvious. Sorry I don't have any closer photos.

Dave, Easy to get a close-up. Go to bar. Sit at this table. Fall off your chair when you are drunk or pretending to be drunk. Snap a couple pictures while you are down there. The gum under the tabletop is not reusable.
