Sanding drum
Hi,
Normally I do not like shaping by sanding because it is both tedious and creates a lot of dust. However, when I looked at the curly grain of the ash lumber, I got afraid of tear-out. So, instead of using my spiral copying shaper cutter I tried a copy drum sander made for a shaper. After band sawing the curved side of the cabinet leg, they were mounted in a jig. With a 120 grit sand paper the drum sander can take approx 1 mm at the time, so after 3 passes they were ready.

The surface is not perfect but fair and above all no tearout. Even more surprising was that the dust collection worked so well. It seems that all dust were taken care of.

Svante
