Mission Finishes on QS White Oak, options?

Hi,

I am considering options on Mission finishes for QS white oak.  I have been using a Jeff Jewitt process for many years but am open to trying something new on this bookcase I am long over due to give as a Christmas gift to a cousin. Looking for something not dark, more caramel in colour.

Take care, Jim

No help choosing a finish, but that piece is beautiful!

You must post pics when you finish it!

Looking good, Jim.

I am definitely not an expert on Mission furniture. My understanding, however, is that fuming was a traditional method of finishing the wood, and that this could allow you to dial in the depth of colour.

Jim, That looks great.Hope all is well. I'd fume it with ammonia and then wipe on a varnish like Waterlox.

A light oak stain or dye followed by a couple coats of oil based polyurethane should do it.
