But I cut mine in the top as part of the design. They're inlayed have the thickness of the board.

Mark, I'm talking about the little metal cleats that were hammered down on the back side to keep a split from going any further. I remember them but can't remember the name.

Found the thingies at Lowes. It is just a cheap table of my daughter's but it is pretty. I have it glued back together but wanted a little insurance. Thanks for your suggestions. All done.

I seem to recall having a few boxes of these about 50 years ago the probably belonged to my grandfather. Their primary use was to join picture frame moldings. And I'm pretty sure the packaging referred to them as scotch fasteners, although it seems that term is now used to describe an extreme type of Velcro.

I guess you can't go wrong with the descriptive term, corrugated fasteners.
