OT Computer? Chrome Vs Yahoo

I crashed my "new" computer by downloading a file that caused it to start screaming about Call Microsoft at some fake number. A friend of mine is cleaning it up.
Meantime I am using the old computer. Somehow Yahoo has insinuated itself into Chrome. So in stead of Google searches it is doing yahoo searches.
Anybody know how to remove Yahoo? I am running Windows.

Our computer ended up with the same nasty malware. It insinuates itself into several places and is hard to ferret out. I installed the free version of Malwarebytes and haven’t had a problem since.
That nasty bug isn’t a Yahoo product but it records all your searches and reports them to someplace else.

Probably you just need to change the default search engine back to google or whatever you prefer. Its under settings, which these days is usually a little gear icon (I don't run Chrome so I'm only slightly familiar with it).

I had the same thing happen yesterday when it invaded my computer through Firefox. I use Linux and only needed to reboot and clean out the cookies.
Some years back I helped some people with a similar problem on their Windows computers. I think it had installed itself as a program and I managed to find and uninstall it.

Click the three dots icon up top -> click settings -> click search engine -> pick Google from the drop-down list.

Gah! That's right!
Why do some use a little gear and some use three dots? What was wrong with menus labeled in plain English (or one's language of choice) anyway? I wonder what the children running the world will change it to next 
I remember sitting in a rental forklift once, where I knew what all the controls did already, but I wasted 10 minutes trying to decipher the manufacturer's silly pictograms

Yahoo is owned by Verizon. Anytime my Verizon phone updates the default browser is reset to Yahoo. Frustrating.

I don't think Verizon owns Yahoo! any longer. They sold AOL and Yahoo! to Apollo Global Management, or are in the process. I use Firefox with NoScript and uBlock origin. NoScript is a bit of a pain to set up but gives a lot of control over what Javascript is allowed to run on a given site. It amazed me how many different sites want to run scripts on some popular pages like espn.com or cnn.com. I allow what I must for the page to be functional but no more.
