I am going to sand our 600 ft sq deck with my 6" RO sander. I thought it would be a lot easier if I didn't have to get on my knees or sit on a stool. so attach a pole to it. Has anyone done it or seen a design somewhere

Yes, but renting a 3 headed RO floor sander from a place like HD for a day does a much better/easier job if have to get down to bare wood again. Just make sure all the surface fasteners, nails/screws, are set. The hand held RO sanders don't have enough weight to them when hooked to a "broom handle" to sand off much.

I'm guessing crowned and cupped boards are going to be your biggest issue. That'll make sanding tough no matter what kind of sander you use.

Ditto on setting the nails and screws. Any that get sanded will end up causing rust spots.
