Howdy all. I am in the stage of getting the supplies for painting kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities. I am planning on using Sher-Wood Kem Aqua Plus Clear and the top coat tinted.

I went to order the Kem Aqua sealer and top coat, and the sealer is unavailable at this time with no idea of when it will be.

This is causing me to look for another paint system. Most latex paints take to long to cure and are too soft for cabinets in a rental.

I asked about using a different base coat at Sherwin Williams, they called Tech Support, and was told no other product will work with this top coat.

So my question are. Is there another sprayer friendly primer (base) that I can use under it? If not is there another type of paint I can use that will hold up on kitchen cabinets that I can spray and will cure in a day or so?

I don't know about particular paint systems, but I do know that even the best painted kitchen cabinets chip and look lousy after a relatively short time. -Howard

Easy to repair

These are going in a rental mobile home. I figure it will be easier to repaint and repair them if they are painted. I might be wrong but that would be the first time this year(-;

Maybe give the TARGET pigmented waterborne lacquer a try? I've used it, and like it. Sprays nice. Easy cleanup.

General Fiunishes make a line of pro waterborne paint ('Enduro') in a limited amount of colors. I "think" they can also make a custom color for you but the minimum is a full gallon and the cost is north of $100. Very tough stuff. 2 or 3 coats in a single day if you start early.

has some draw backs. The only two places in TN that sell the Target are near Nashville about 120 or so miles away from me. The General Finishes dealers are closer only 60 or so miles away. I will give them a call and see if they have any stock before I drive. In stock wins on this project.

I order mine directly from Target. Delivery usually only takes two days. YMMV.

I just finished painting some kitchen cabinets for my daughter and used Lenmar Precatalyzed Lacquer. It's a clear product but can be tinted. The main drawback is it's a solvent based product. It sprayed very nicely, dries to the touch in about 30 minutes and can be re-coated in about an hour.

You might have to wait. My neighbour is getting her cabinets professionally refinished (black) and the painter says he can't get the product and doesn't know when it will become available.

Another friend's water heater died and the plumber estimates 3 months before he can get a new one (but my Uncle's water heater also just died (1000 km from where I live) and he was able to drive to the local box store and get one off the shelf).
