12 feet of bridge deck installed

Bill Tindall, E.Tn.

At least for now, subject to change, a jig was constructed. 12' sections of ties, curbs and runners, on which the deck will be fastened, will be assembled near the bridge.

These sections will then be carried to the bridge and placed on the I-beams. Ties are secured to I-beams with J-hooks though the ties and under the I-beam flange.

All work stopped Monday. A safety cable is to be installed across the bridge, anchored to posts clamped to the I-beam at each end. Workman harnesses will be hooked to the cabel. One can see the metal post in the above picture. As we began installation of the opposite post hundreds of bees poured out from a hive in the hollow of one of the bridge timbers.

To be continued..........

How do you carry the assembled sections?

jergle

Those assembled sections have to weigh a ton (or more). How do you get them to the bridge after assembly?
