Tool envy?

Tool envy?

Barry Irby

A friend asked me to help him making some small cabinets in my shop. (I have a 6" Rockwell Deluxe long bed jointer that is about fifty years old) He walked in and said "I really like your jointer, It's so compact.'

I also have a Nova DVR lathe with a bed extension. Another friend asked me to turn a bowl out of a prized piece of 10" redbud for his wife. He asked How are you going to do it? I pointed and said on the lathe. He said "Do you think that little thing will do it?"

I either need bigger tools or more tactful friends.

When your friend has his cabinets ready to finish look at them closely and say "The finish will have plenty to grab onto."
