I looked at some websites, so the money would be between $300 and $500, I guess. I was more thinking about experiences of what to look for, what to watch out for, and maybe experience with a particular model. Price might not be the most important thing to consider. But what do I know?! Obviously, not enough.

If this is a tool that will see a lot of use I say skip the used ones.

Generally they are worn out and you must pump it more times to lift the load or they slowly lower the load while you are moving it. Some have been overloaded and have bent the lift arms. The polyurethane wheels get hard and crack and fall apart with age.

Every one of these failure mode can be dangerous when you have a heavy load that want to tip over on you.

As always China is there with cheap product that will get the job done.

If you are willing to spend twice as much I always like Crown jacks best good hand controls and fewer sharp corners to bump into you or anything else.

There are two standard pallet jack widths. Take some measurements of the common stuff that you move and choose accordingly. While you can sometimes finesse an off-center load, it is much easier to use a pallet jack that can be centered on the pallet. I have had good luck with used pallet jacks and you might even get someone to donate one. Good luck.

It is the employers' responsibility to purchase equipment and train employees in its proper use.

Some manual pallet lifts require a force of at least 75lbs to move. Not something I would allow a 72 year old employee to do.
