the pic looks like a clever joke...but...

I did some reading on left handed threads. McMaster sells a good selection of them.

This was in a reply:

in earthquake country, unions are not allowed on gas pipe, so left and right hand couplings are used with a matching left and right hand thread nipple. The od of the nipple is knurled to identify it.

So I take it the manifold could be built but this is a bit of humor.

Perhaps a simpler way to look at the problem is by starting with the configuration you see in the pic, can you take the manifold completely apart? Even using only right hand threaded parts, I think the answer is "Yes" under one condition: The vertical pipes are screwed in less than half way.

Yup...thought of that. How much pipe dope would be needed to seal the threads? LOL!

In some new age restaurant similar to that manifold. It was of two inch pipe and had crosses for fitting in the middle. I did not know crosses existed. I spent part of the meal trying to decipher how it was put together. Never actually figured it out.
