I've been off the site for a while as I am preparing to transition into "full time?" woodworking. I received notice a few weeks back that the day job is coming to an end and I'll be done as a University of Michigan employee in mid April after 37 years. I had a good run-12 Years as a Radio Producer and the last almost 25 running a Machine Shop. I'll turn 62 in early April and have dropped 34 lbs in the last few months so overall I'm feeling like I have some decent mileage left.
We put a fair amount of effort into the Carriage Barn last summer but it still needs wiring, insulation and heat if it's to become a year round facility.
I am seriously looking into some Milling Machine and Metal Lathe options as I want to maintain if not expand that area of my work. I've been working on a fourth prototype for my music stand mechanisms-this is a morphing of my early designs with my Dad's design from the year before he passed.
I hope to have a full finished design before the end of the summer.
My goals from this point are to keep building commissions as they might appear but also to focus on marketing these music stands and smaller cabinets that I've made for sheet music and books.
I am finishing up work on my first commission since 2019- A home office desk in Walnut. This should get delivered in the coming week and I hope to have better pictures.
