OT Bizarre Question Dentures

I have for the last few years had the neglected cemetery look in my mouth. In a couple of weeks I am scheduled to have all my bottom teeth removed, and all my tops EXCEPT for a couple of molars on each side. they are not pristine, but they are reasonable intact. My dentist and denturist say that it is always best to keep a few of your natural teeth to better anchor the top plate. My closest friend says the best thing he ever did was to get his last few top teeth pulled and go for a full set of dentures on the top. My wife's theory is that people rarely have trouble with full top plates, so why keep a few real teeth when they may need continuing dental work or require plate modification or replacement if some of the remaining teeth were ever removed. It is a tough decision, you can't put teeth back in after extraction, on the other hand you don't want to buy new dentures every time your teeth change.

I have had dentures for over 45 years, full top and bottom. I have had zero issues with no real teeth to anchor them to. I think I'm on my 3rd set, they do wear out or break. My real teeth were rotten and I had more trips to dentist than I care to remember. If it were me I would get them all removed and be done with them. I can eat anything I want with the only problem being getting fatter every year. Good luck with your new teeth!!

I've had full dentures for about 30 years no problems with the top. Without teeth they get good suction and stay in place. The bottoms stay in place without any glue but, of course, don't have as much surface area for suction.

I found its best to have your new teeth made before the old ones come out and then put in place immediately after surgery. Your gums will heal to your teeth - that makes for a much better fit.

I've let my gums heal for a week, had the impressions made, then waited a week for the teeth to come in.

Then my gums had to readjust to the teeth.

Personally I would have all of the teeth pulled.

I had a "partial" upper when I was quite young due to a car accident that caused me to lose 2 of my front teeth.

It gave me fits.

The dentist attached the partial with wires that fit around adjoining teeth. The wires eroded these teeth and caused several trips to have fillings. I now have full upper dentures with no issues!

Question on the glue. Do you use gorilla glue, or Titebond outdoor wood glue?? I suppose if you were a turner you might use CA glue...

Or, if you were a furniture restorer, you might use Hide glue.
