Looking nice. Profile the long back pieces to match rest of legs.
Down side of book shelfs.....gobs of acreage to finish.

Consider a corner block for the back leg to strengthen the thin backing material. You will likely have to sculpt the block's outer edges so that the shape blends into the rest of the leg structure.

Already planned on it. Thanks.
I've been thinking about using shellac on the inside of the case and poly on the outside.
Poly is generally frowned on when used on interiors of cabinets because of smells and so on. Is this a consideration with a bookcase? Maybe it would be ok to use poly on the inside?

Maybe it would be ok to use poly on the inside? yes. In fact the inside is where wear will occur.
