Anyone get this newly released vaccine? I finally have an appointment this Wednesday and was wondering about side effects.

The good news is that is the One and Done version.

Data show that one shot of Pfizer is more effective than one of J&J. Pfizer is about 85% effective 10 days after first dose.

Good for everyone that has been able to get the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. I had been trying to get an appointment ever since I was eligible (over 65). I would try at various times of day and night to book an appointment but no luck. With the release of the Janssen vaccine, I was able to schedule an appointment. 50 miles away.

So, would I rather have one of the other vaccines? Yes, but I am happy to get the protection of the Janssen vaccine. After reading a little about the vaccines, I have come to the conclusion it might not be an apples to apples comparison. The earlier Pfizer and Moderna trials were against the earlier COVID19 and the Janssen trials were against later variants such as the South African one. Janssen trials resulted in NO hospitalizations or deaths from COVID19 once two weeks passed after the injection.

I am happy to finally get an appointment and think it would be foolish to hold out for the other vaccines.

"Data show that one shot of Pfizer is more effective than one of J&J. Pfizer is about 85% effective 10 days after first dose"

That is the TV headline news.

Look into the data and you will see that in the test group J&J's vaccine prevented anyone from hospitalization or death.

Thats damned good in my book.

not from the headline news

Bill Tindall, E.Tn.

That is the TV headline news.

Actually I reported data that was in the application from Pfizer to the FDA for emergency use authorization.

This picture is the screen shot of the data table

These data have been confirmed with data on vaccinated people in the general population out of Israel.

Now to clarify to those that didn't understand my post. It was commented that J&J had the advantage of single dose. Well, J&J does not have that advantage. A single dose of Pfizer is certaily as good. And data out of Pfizer is showing that the vaccine is as effective against the new strains.

Is J&J better than nothing? Absolutely. There was nothing in my post to suggest otherwise.

Data yesterday from a doc named..

David Weaver

...campbell (I believe the guy may be the equivalent of a retired PA in England, using our terminology).

For moderate and severe covid, J&J is not as effective. For hospitalizations and deaths, it's nearly identical. Without additional resoultion, suggests that the additional cases are moderate.

I believe it's too early to know conclusively the efficacy of any of the vaccines, but it certainly is better to get vaccinated with whichever formulation is available to you, than to wait for what might be the "best" product.

As someone said in an earlier post, the most effective vaccine is the one in your arm.
