I did a full kitchen for a customer using SW pre cat lacquer that was tinted to the color they wanted. They were pretty rough a a few doors that will need to be replaced. I have two unopened cans but they are 1 year old and SW suggests using them by 3 months after mixing. Now I know the strength of the finish will not be the same, but does anyone know how different it would be? If I need to get more I have to buy a minimum of 5 gallons which gets pricey, naturally they have to pick up the cost. So for a few doors get a new batch or is it ok to use what I have? Thanks much.

Do you feel like stripping them on your dime after they repeat their pattern of being rough on doors if the finish doesn't go full hard? Then go ahead and try it. Personally, I'd buy on their dime. Sounds like you will have more touch up work from them in the future.

I use SW pre cat lacquer. The specs are that its useful life is 6 months after the catalyst is mixed in. I've had some leftover at 6 months, and used it by about the 8 month point. If was a year old, well that's a margin of error of 100%. I'd get new. We can get it in one gallon or five gallon sizes here.

I would think that the failure mode would be that it would begin to cross link and hence thicken. If it has not thickened I would use it.
