Flag case - starting to apply finish

Nothing exciting here, but I've started to apply finish to this little flag case.

At least I'm almost done.

I sanded it to 180. Applied a wash coat of zinser, then going to apply a coat or two of whatever varnish I have on hand.

I'm thinking about maybe making a base to put it on. Just a piece slightly larger than the case's width and length and routing a simple profile to it. Maybe I'll ask the future owner if they would like that.

Oh, and I need glass for it...

The design I have been using calls for some 1/2 x 3/4" strips on the underside, perpendicular to the cabinet. I let them extend out beyond the front of the case by about 3/4", and round the top corner to the front edge heavily. Some rubber stickers on the outer ends to keep it quiet on the shelf. These feet give it a little more stability from falling forward, and give it a little more grace on the shelf. Install about 3" in from the corners of the case.

Pete, I addressed the falling forward issue by having the box tilt backward slightly so the center of balance is more toward the rear, figuring if it were to fall backward, at least it wouldn't fall off the shelf but against the wall. All three side panels join with a slight cant, which make for some interesting mitre cuts.
