Cheap hearing aids

Doug Ridley

OT--Has anyone on here tried the Audien hearing aids. They are advertised for $89 with a $60 upgrade for a total of $149.00. I have a hard time believing they are any good. Would like to hear from someone who has them.

I did a search for these and saw a disturbing number of scam reports for the product quality, their customer service and their business practices.

"If it sounds too good to be true ~~~~etc"

Doug, I don't know anything about that product, but due to regulations and such, the hearing aid industry has historically had very expensive devices. I saw a 60 Minutes program about hearing aids (maybe in 2019) where they talked to developers that are designing a new class of hearing aids that are not quite as high-end, but because they are not trying for the medical-grade product, the cost is significantly less. In other words, a couple of hundred vs several thousand. These companies are legitimate, but, because they are not regulated the same, you have to be careful about shoddy products.

It would be worth finding the 60-Minutes program to learn more.

I don't know about cheap hearing aids...

but I bought the expensive kind (about $6000) from a company that I thought would be the Cadillac of hearing aids. They are marginally better than just cupping my hand behind my ear. I could have bought a lot of tools and computer equipment with that money!

The best price for high end aids is at Costco.

Does Costco do the exam, too, or do you need a prescription in hand?

They do everything from free testing to customizing the volume of frequencies to any follow-up needed.

Happy with mine so far.
