Case construction- what is needed
Bill Tindall, E.Tn.
The first in a series of thoughts on technique.
The most important need in case construction is motivation, seriously. If you are motivated to build a place to store your socks you will find a way.
Pictured is about the 3rd case piece I ever made, a sewing cabinet. Later it became a kitchen desk and then after decades of service got replaced by a better desk. At the time I had a Craftsman table saw and not much else. It is made like I came to make kitchen cabinets. Face frame is doweled. Sides are inleted into face frame with a dado. Floor is dadoed into sides. Top sits on top.

Drawers were installed with side runners. The whole affair was still sound when it was decommissioned. A unit of drawers was made about this same time with this same construction. It has been painted and is in use in daughter's kitchen. there is a picture of it in my Gallery photos.
