I need more input for my shop. I dry walled the ceiling and will paint it an off-white eggshell paint. I did the walls with 3/8 plywood bead board, This turned out to be more cost effective than some of the OSB materials suggested. I was going to paint the walls the same as the ceiling but after the installer mentioned to my wife that he liked the wood grain appearance I got out voted. So what finish do I apply to the walls?

For heating and cooling I had installed two of the Daikin mini splits( a 12,000 and a 9,000 BTU). I was going with the Mitsubishi but they were back ordered with no estimated delivery date. The heating and cooling had an unintended consequence. One my exterior doors is sliding barn door (which is under a lean to roof). The perimeter is flat framed with 2 x 6's with 2 X 4's on 12 inch centers and 3/8 T-111 on the exterior. At the end of the door travel in the closed position the edge of the door fits in an angle iron pocket for security purpose and the back end of the door is pulled tight to the building with a "T" bolt. After the third day of running the heat (it has been raining for the last several days), when I went to open the door it was stuck and it took two of us to open the door. Further investigation revealed that door had warped along it height and width thus making it bind the angle iron pocket. I am wondering do I need to fill between the 2 x 4's with the Styrofoam sheets and put a luan skin on the inside of the door?

I am going to put two closets underneath the stairwell. One for air compressors and the other for dust collectors. I have an air compressor (has a 30 gallon tank) that I was going to rebuild. I have decided that it will not be worth the effort and cost. I was thinking of connecting that tank to the other 30 gallon tank on my main compressor for reserve air. I have heard people say it makes it more efficient because your compressor does not start as often, but I realize the compressor has to run twice as long to charge the two tanks back up. What do you think?

My dust collector is a Grizzly four bag unit that is rated about 2200 CFM. I plan on putting a 36 "louvered door to the dust collector closet with filters inside the door. Is one door enough or do I need two or more?

Last question. My mini split units have separate compressors. Should I run both at the same time when heating or cooling? I know from my work on conventional powered carriers that the Navy would run all four plants at the same time whether they needed them or not. This was not always efficient and caused addition work when they came in for a yard period. Am I looking at something like that? In other words do I need to just run what will maintain the temperature at the moment?

I would make the assumption that a qualitied HVAC person recommended your setup based on the space to condition along with other factors like number of windows, doors, and insulation. Knowing how energy efficient these units are I would say run both to prevent cool or warm zones from using just one unit.

I guess I'm a little surprised they used two separate units versus a single compressor and two head units. Seems like it would be a little cheaper.

The AC company said it was cheaper to use two separate outside units versus one. I went online and checked the prices myself and two smaller units were cheaper than the larger compressor with two head units.

Yes 1 compressor connected to 1 head allows the compressor to run at slower speeds multi hard systems can’t.

Heat pumps operate bests as set it and forget it machines. Set the temp and do not change it turn it to heat in the fall and off for a few weeks in the spring then to cool for the summer.

You will find you mini split system operates very differently than the gas furnace in your house. The furnace is either on or off mostly off. The mini works the other way it will be mostly on running at a slow speed. It will cycle on and off like the furnace but only when running at its lowest speed produces more heat than is needed.

If your shop is one big room you could run one unit or the other and only turn on the other when it is extremely hot or cold.

I would be tempted to just run the smaller unit until I found the lowest temp it could maintain the set point and then do the larger unit. Then run the appropriate unit for the expected temps.

I'd use satin wipe-on poly for the walls. Easy to apply and it doesn't have that plastic look gloss has.
