If you want non-slip, get some play sand from home depot or where ever and sprinkle some on the fresh paint. I find the play sand kind of coarse, so I would also get a cheap kitchen strainer and use it to dust the fines onto the wet paint. If you want to live dangerously, just borrow the one from the kitchen 
At work we used non-slip adhesive sheets, undoubtably from McMaster-Carr, but the stuff is expensive. The link below is all their non-slip tape, I think 7781T35 sheet is what we bought, but this was about 5 years ago so I wouldn't swear to it. Kinda expensive compared to the sand
