Question about EZtension gauge

Johanna Johanson

Has anyone used an EZtension gauge on a 16 or 18 inch bandsaw? The web site says that the standard version is for a bandsaw with a 6 inch depth of cut. I have emailed the company (using the "contact" application on their site), but I would like to hear from woodworkers who use one on a large band saw.

Wow! I received an answer from EZtension immediately! So I have ordered one for my saw. It has already been set up for shipping!

His email said: "It can be used on any bandsaw as long there is access to 6 inches of exposed blade. Most 18 bandsaw easily have that much re-saw capacity."

There is also a "mini" version for small bench-top bandsaws.

Question

Derek Cohen (in Perth, Australia)

According to the website video, this tension gauge is only for 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2” blades. What ifyou wish to tension a carbide blade or something around 1”?

Regards from Perth

Derek

Re: Question

I do not use blades wider than 1/2 inch even though my bandsaw is large enough to handle one. I have never seen the need for such a large blade.

I'm with you Larry I am guessing but it sounds like a Gismo to check blade tension on a bandsaw, I'm 85 years old and have never found a need for such a thing of course I have only been woodworking for 60 years so I have a lot to learn yet.

It's possible to measure bandsaw blade tension using a digital caliper or dial indicator. Here's one that should work on common bandsaw blade sizes:

There are other methods and devices, easy enough to search.
