Can you reach the vent from ground level?
Jim Matthews
I remove our exterior vent (plastic, with louvers) and snake a vacuum hose into it.

I agree whole heartly with that comment but would only add that I found a 90% blockage all the way up to the main floor. Saved a major fire. P

I have a "cheap" plastic louvered vent that I believe has a ductwork extension on it that goes into the joist space. So it is not removable. But it is on the ground floor.
Leaf blower.....
Tim Greif
I periodically use an electric leaf blower to clear the vent. It's generally a two person job. LOML runs the leaf blower while I keep the vent louvers open outside to avoid the clogging that would occur when the slug of lint hits the louvers. Wrap the end of the leaf blower with a bath towel to avoid blowback and don't remove the blower from the duct until after you've turned off the blower for a few seconds. Otherwise, you'll likely get a lint snowstorm in the laundry room. DAMHIKT

One way to reduce cleaning is to use rigid duct and elbows. Since you don't mention distance, I don't know if a brush on fiberglass rods makes sense for you or not.

Got it done!! I now have a removable louver on the exterior and a round brush. It is clean enough to eat off. Sorta!!

This is a significant risk. As a Home Inspector I am very aware that many many fires have been started by partially clogged dryer vents. Google Dryer Fire. Also, it ruins he efficiency of your dryer and will shorten the life of he heating elements. (DAMHIKT)
Keep the dryer vent clean and use metal/fire resistant ducting, not slinky hose.
