OT- Woodpeckers!!!

I am really getting fed up with these guys doing a number on my cedar siding!!
So anyone have any ideas how to deter them? I would offer then a lead pill but they are gone when I make my appearance.

Had the same issue as you. If it wasn't for the knots it was for them excavating the carpenter bee holes.
Bought 3 18" colorful plastic owls and placed them at a peak and several high levels. Owls are predators and other birds are afraid of them.
Mine were reasonable in price ($10 or so). I also saw some animatronic versions, but it would've been cheaper to reside the #@^&*!!! house.
Unfortunately the damn bees are fearless.

Don't shoot them. They are protected under Federal law.
I've read plastic owls are a good deterrent.

I put up some CD's on some monofilament fishing line. I hear it tapping on the corner of the shop. Hopefully this will deter them.

My experience with CDs is that they work for a day or so and then the peckers mostly ignore them.
No food source, no woodpeckers....!!

Get rid of the carpenter bees and the woodpeckers will also leave. Some of the carpenter bee traps work quite well. If you have kids, give them some badminton racquets and pay a dollar for each bee carcase they deliver. You can swat the bees when they hover. No danger of stings as they don't have one.

Teach the kids to kill the pollinators for no good reason and they will be eating Soylent Green in the future.

The area where they have "attacked" is a new corner board that I installed last Fall. There are no need holes.
