"Elastomer" is just a fancy name for rubbery....it's elastic. This stuff is an acrylic polymer. It should do well for the application. Should be a lot cheaper to make.

One thing I've learned from my younger son is that, in any given area, there will be one or more clouds of tradespeople who see each other on jobs all the time, cross-refer, etc. The painter that's in my son's cloud swears by that product.

I've used it, and have learned that there are times NOT to use it: I had to replace a window by the back door. We'd done a remodel there, and I'd used the Dynaflex to caulk the trim as I put it on the old window. When I pulled the trim to install the new window, the caulk held so strongly on the painted siding that it was pulling large chunks of wood from the back side of the trim.

I suspect that the Dynaflex will last at least as long as silicone, and with way fewer installation hassles, as you noted: clean up with water, good open time, etc.

If I expect to have to get back into an area, I use the basic DAP acrylic latex instead.

When I need to do remodeling where I need to remove an elastomer from a substrate and I want to preserve the substrate, one of those Fein MultiMaster knockoff oscillating tools with a flexible putty knife blade attachment is often the most effective weapon.
