Herringbone pattern on cabinet doors

Lee

Anybody ever make a Herringbone pattern for cabinet doors, NOT full size doors? Would love to see pics and hear about your experience, what you learned, what you may do differently if you did it again.

These doors are for a credenza I will build and they will be sprayed white allowing for the pattern to still be visible.

My concerns are wood movement as I always shoot for nice clean and minimal reveals between doors/drawers.

My thoughts are 1/8” thick strips glued to a ply substrate. This should stop wood movement, but I am concerned that the tension on the one side will cause the door to bow.

Any thoughts??

I am just starting to play with veneer, what I have learned so far is that it is common practice to veneer both sides of a panel even if only one side is visible. I would expect the same applies to your application.

I was taught that 1/8" still acts like solid wood. I start at 3/32" and sand 1/32" off that after glue up. That is thin enough to act like veneer, but you need a layer on the back to balance the panel. Only cover 1 side and it moves just from the glue up process.
