Test pic posting- Rock Table delivered

Bill Tindall, E.Tn.

Delivered the table to daughter. She was satisfied with the result.

More information

Bill Tindall, E.Tn.

This was a different piece of furniture to build. Normally I make a piece of furniture and fit the top to the result. My case target width of say 24" might wind up some different.

In this case the rock determined the length and thickness. Daughter specified an over hang and width of flanking walnut. I had to be especially careful with the dimensions of all the frame and drawer parts to achieve a frame that meet the size requirements. A lot of time was spent double and triple checking the size of components.

Looks great.....Question....

Barry Irby

Nice Job.....best looking piece of lawn furniture I have ever seen.

The second picture makes it look like the end is undercut, but the first picture makes it clear it's square.

I like the shelf. Did you put spacers between the slats to hold them in alignment? With my luck they would twist and warp and look like the devil.

You have zeroed in on the final challenge

Bill Tindall, E.Tn.

Every time I thought I was near done with this table some dangling step rose up to challenge. The last straw was the slat shelf. The slats were cut from 8/4 plank and some decided not to play nice with the others.

Slats were cut to size and notch cut.

Prefinished

Made temporary spacers exactly the thickness to equally space the slats

Installed slats-slat, spacer, slat, spacer, etc.

Double pin nailed slats to stretcher

screwed slats to a stick of wood beneath slats at their center to hold the bundle flat

All this arrangement fixed them equally spaced and flat in spite of some's crankiness.
