Old guard posters

Dave Smith, Longview, WA.

I have been off the board for a long, long time. Checking in to see if any of usual suspects are still around. A quick perusal identified a few people I recognized, John Lucas, Mike Stafford, and Mark Mandell. Sorry if I missed anybody. I suffer from OLD disease.

To jog your memory I am the guy who developed the protocol for drying roughed out bowls.

Dave Smith

Trying to remember anything in Longview, WA.

Hi Dave. Glad to see you. I still have the bowl I got from you at one of Sophie’s picnics.

Thanks for checking in, Dave. I hope the years are treating you well. Still turning?

I remember meeting you at the KC WW show about 10 years ago. Good to see you still kicking. Oh and I bought some big leaf maple hunks from you also. Take care we all suffer from the old problem.

Enjoyed the BBQ you hosted in Texas. The bowl you bought was one of my first sales. I was shocked somebody would pay me for a turning.

Still turning. In process of closing out the shop. I have more wood than I can possibly use before I die but it still hurts to see it go. There is a wood shop in the resort where we stay during the winter in Mesa, AZ. Turning is about all I do there.

At the KC 2005 AAW symposium I remember sharing a table with a couple of up and coming wood turners. You may know Jennifer Shirley and Molly Winton.

Gerry in North Surrey

Good to hear from you, Dave. Been a lot of water under the bridge since Sophie's BBQ's.

Gerry, who used to post from Halfmoon Bay, moved to North Surrey, and now to the Columbia Valley in BC.

Who you calling old

Mike L

Ok so maybe I am a little older now. It is great hearing from you. I figured you and Sophie went off the Grid someplace in an undisclosed location.

Hey Dave, good to see you posting again. I recall meeting you at one of the Ponderpalooza gatherings that Phil Kosin put together back when Badger Pond was still alive. Glad to hear you're still doing well.
